Summer 2014 Academic/Cultural Communication Program at Oxford University

Twenty-five students majoring in mathematics and physics from Zhiyuan College attended a two week academic/cultural communication program held jointly by Zhiyuan College and Hertford College of Oxford University. Hertford College tailored an academic program for the students which included lectures in mathematics and physics, seminars on English language and culture, and workshops on architecture and the arts, with special reference to the university and the city of Oxford. Students were given ample opportunities to interact with Oxford professors and students, both academically and socially. They lived in an historic dormitory at Herford College and passed the famous “Bridge of Sighs” on their way to lectures.

Lectures: Physics, Mathematics, English Language and Culture, Architecture and the Arts

Extracurricular activities: Frequent and varied activities with Oxford undergraduates, trip to London

Accommodations: Undergrad dorm at Hertford College

Housing, tuition and sightseeing were covered by funds from Zhiyuan College. Students were responsible for their international airfare.
